Three-quarters of those struggling with addiction to alcohol\, pain medication\, marijuana and other substances are employed.  A recent survey by the National Safety Council found that 7 in 10 workplaces were affected by prescription drug misuse.  While most employers know the health risks\, few think about the toll it can have on their businesses: absenteeism\, increased health care expenses\, safety risks\, and lower productivity.  Because of the increase in prescription drug use and abuse and the side effects of prescription and over-the-counter medications\, employers are increasingly faced with unique challenges under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other laws.
